Maturation

The wine is aged in 225-liter French oak barrels (barriques). These barrels not only provide an ideal environment for the wine to mature, but also allow it to develop subtle aromas and an elegant structure. After fermentation is complete, a careful decision is made as to what proportion of the wine should mature in new versus used barrels. This decision is based on a precise health and analytical assessment of the wine, ensuring that its natural characteristics are shown to their best advantage. The length of time the wine spends in the oak barrels is not fixed, but is individually adjusted to the structure the wine displays during maturation. This tailored approach allows each wine to reach its optimal maturity and depth of flavor. According to current production regulations, the maturation period in wood is at least 18 to 24 months. During this time, the wine can develop its complexity and full expression before being bottled to delight lovers of fine wines.

Scent

The wine's bouquet captivates the senses with a unique and multi-layered aromatic profile, unfolding in an artful sequence of impressions. Initially, it impresses with a restrained character, lending the wine a mysterious aura. However, this subtle reserve soon gives way to majestic notes of ripe dark berries, reminiscent of juicy blackberries and black currants. This fruity foundation is accompanied by elegant floral nuances, as if a delicate breath of rose petals were floating in the glass. A fine smoky note joins in, reminiscent of rows of tarred roads after a summer rain, adding depth and complexity to the aroma. Warmth and spice follow closely, carried by hints of noble spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg, lending the wine an alluring spice. These harmonies testify to a terroir that is rich and multifaceted, authentically reflecting the character of the vines. Gradually, a subtle interplay of minerality unfolds, a cool, almost stony freshness that adds additional elegance and structure to the opulent fruit notes. The wine's bouquet is an experience in its changeability and complexity, captivating connoisseurs and inviting them to linger, as it develops ever greater grace in the glass over time.

Taste

On the palate, the wine unfolds a rich and opulent texture, captivating with its unparalleled precision and balance. It begins with a velvety entry, enveloping the tongue with a blend of ripe dark fruits. One is reminded of plump blackberries and juicy black cherries, which bring with them an intense fruity sweetness. The fruit notes are accompanied by an astonishing freshness, lending the taste a vibrant liveliness. This freshness is carried by a delicate yet noticeable acidity, which perfectly balances the opulent fruit facets while lending them a certain elegance and finesse. As it lingers in the mouth, a profound minerality emerges, permeating the wine with a beautiful earthiness. These mineral hints lend complexity and resonance: a cool breeze that brightens the entire taste experience and gives it additional structure. Furthermore, the wine reveals an impressive concentration of flavor nuances, interwoven with finely integrated spice tones. A hint of fine tobacco and finely ground black pepper complements the fruity base, lending the wine a subtly piquant undertone. The finish is long and persistent, characterized by elegant tannins that gently embrace the palate, creating a feeling of harmony and continuity. Here, silky tannins frame the intense flavors, leaving a lasting and satisfying finish that lingers on the taste buds for hours.

Serving suggestion

A Barolo is a wine of remarkable depth and complexity, making it an excellent accompaniment to hearty dishes. To best enjoy its aromas, begin with antipasti such as Prosciutto di Parma or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. These appetizers harmonize wonderfully with the wine's powerful tannins. For the main course, rich dishes such as Osso Buco or a creamy mushroom risotto are ideal. These dishes complement the earthy and floral notes of the Barolo, making the dinner a flavorful experience. Conclude the menu with a selection of aged cheeses, such as a spicy blue cheese, which gently captures the remaining tannins in the wine. Remember to decant the Barolo before serving to allow its aromas to fully develop. This carefully arranged menu guarantees an unforgettable culinary journey.
